Ricky Esterquest

Ricky Esterquest is a dedicated community development practitioner with over 17 years of experience in disability and community services. As the Founder and Principal Community Development Worker of Towards Better, Ricky is deeply committed to working alongside families to create meaningful, valued roles for their loved ones.

With a strong foundation in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Ricky helps individuals and families uncover strengths, build authentic relationships, and activate local assets to foster true integration and contribution. His work is centered on moving beyond mere presence—ensuring that people with disabilities actively participate, contribute, and belong in their communities.

Through relationship-building, tailored support, and a focus on meaningful roles and deeper community connections, Ricky empowers families to see and act upon strengths and possibilities rather than deficits and barriers. His work embodies the core values of connection, learning, individuality, simplicity, and inclusion, ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive, be recognised for their strengths, and have active, valued and meaningful roles in welcoming local communities.
